Discovering Delhi’s grand monuments

Your journey begins with arrival in New Delhi, where our representative will meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel. The capital city of India is a fascinating mix of tradition and modernity. Spend day 2 with your guide visiting Old Delhi by rickshaw and visiting two of Delhi’s most character-filled temples; the lavish Hindu Akshardham Temple with elaborate sculpted mythical creatures and the magnificent Bangla Sahib Sikh gurdwara topped by golden domes.

A fort and a view

Head out by private car along the expressway to Agra. Visit Agra Fort, built in the 16th C by three generations of Mughal emperors. See the ‘Baby Taj’, the mausoleum of Itimad-ud-Daulah, built to represent a silver box encased in marble. End the day at the Mahtab Bagh gardens with spectacular views of the Taj Mahal across the river as the sun sets.

Early this morning visit the iconic Taj Mahal; see the magnificent monument at sunrise as the marble glows rose and gold. Explore nearby Fatehpur Sikri, the vast red sandstone city briefly capital of the Mughal Empire under Akbar. Now abandoned the complex is home to three lavish palaces built for favourite wives. Transfer to the Bharatpur railway station for the journey to Sawai Madhopur. You’ll be met at the station and driven to your lodge.

On the lookout for the magnificent Bengal Tiger

Ranthambore, on the fringes of the Vindhya Hills in Eastern Rajasthan, protects 400 square kilometres of rocky hill and plateau country in dry deciduous jungle. A formidable 10th-Century fortress high above the plains provides a dramatic backdrop for viewing game. Although it’s one of the smaller reserves in India, Ranthambore is famous as a leading tiger sanctuary in the country, with some 60 individual Bengal Tigers here, supported by large numbers of Chital, Sambar, Wild Boar and India’s signature bear species: the Sloth Bear. Enjoy two safaris every day with time to explore the fort inhabited by curious Langur monkeys.

Travel by private car to see some of the finest temple art in the world at Khajuraho. The stunning sculptures carved on the group of 10th C Hindu and Jain temples illustrate values of the Hindu pantheon as well numerous aspects of human life including the famed erotic sculptures.

On day 8 drive to Bandhavgarh N.P. reputed to have one of the highest densities of tiger in the world. the park’s 437 sq kms are marked by thick forests of deciduous trees, grassy savannahs, bamboo breaks and undulating hills. This one of India’s great scenic areas, made even more impressive by an ancient fort with rock-cut caves hovering over the landscape. There are estimated to be one tiger to every 4km, which makes your chances of spotting them quite high!

The picturesque Kanha National Park is one of the first areas to be protected under Project Tiger, aimed at preserving this magnificent animal. The conservation area is home to an estimated 200 tigers, as well as leopard, spiky-horned nilgai, and sambar. The magnificent gaur, the strikingly beautiful bluebull, the Barasingha or swamp deer and the ubiquitous langur monkeys are all here. Game drives are on the menu for days 12 and 13. You may also catch sight of an exotic array of birds, such as orioles, egrets, hornbills, kingfishers and birds of prey, which are most likely found near the rivers.
