Conveniently close to the airport, the coastal town of Negombo makes a relaxing start to your Sri Lanka family adventure. Upon arrival in Colombo, you will be met on arrival at the airport by our local representative and transferred to your beachside hotel. Spend Day 2 on the beach, cycling the network of canals, or exploring the coconut plantations.

Fortresses, Monkeys, and Elephants

Challenge the kids on a climb to the top of the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, meet the monkeys inhabiting the ancient citadel at Polonnaruwa filled with palace ruins and shrines, and count the many life-size statues in the 3rd century BC Dambulla caves. Take a jeep safari in Minneriya National Park to observe the gathering herds of wild elephants or visit an elephant sanctuary to walk with baby elephants.

Tradition comes alive

Experience aspects of traditional Sri Lanka in the pretty town of Kandy. Visit the temple to meet with young monks or take a lesson in traditional drumming from a professional teacher. Your host will accompany you to make an offering of lotus blossoms at the famed Temple of the Tooth, a major hub for Buddhist pilgrims and home to the Lord Buddha’s left upper canine said to have been taken from the Buddha’s funeral pyre in India and smuggled out in the hair of a princess.

Hop on board the train for one of the most scenic train rides in Asia, passing by emerald-green tea plantations, majestic peaks, and rushing waterfalls. From your base in the delightful sleepy little town of Ella, visit a tea factory and have a go at picking tea leaves – it’s not as easy as it looks! Enjoy a scenic hike to Little Adam’s Peak and take in the sweeping views of the mountainside covered with lush jungle or stretch yourself with a hike to the top of Ella Rock for more stunning views.
