You are welcomed at the airport on arrival and escorted to your hotel. Leap right in with a heritage walking tour around Durbar Square, through the maze of surrounding backstreets to the House of the Living Goddess to hear the story of Kumari, the living symbol of female spiritual energy. Engage your senses with a visit to the golden-topped Swayambhunath Stupa, sound the prayer wheels of the ancient Boudhanath Stupa, meet modern monks for a meditation session, learn to prepare an authentic Nepalese momo, and join an Alaya family for a hosted lunch.

Head to the Trishuli River for a rafting experience along this moderate-level bouncy river; rapids aren’t too big, waters are quite warm, and there are lovely views of terraced farmland and high hills. Continue to Chitwan National Park, home to elephants, rhinoceros, crocodiles, and tigers plus hundreds of bird species. Settle into a comfortable lodge or tented camp with easy access to the park. Join naturalist guides to walk with elephants onto the grasslands where they graze freely. Take a dugout canoe ride on the Rapti River on the lookout of crocodiles. Spot the Asiatic one-horned rhino and keep a look out for the Bengal tiger on an early morning safari drive. Chitwan’s wildlife is sure to impress!

Travel overland to spectacularly scenic Pokhara, set against the majestic peaks of the Annapurna range. Choose your activity level for your stay here: hike up to Sarangkot for the sun rise over the mountains; stretch your legs on hike through the rhododendron forest; join a Gurkha family to visit their village; raft on the Upper Seti River; paddle on Begnas Lake. Adventurers may want to take to the sky – this area offers some of the world’s best paragliding! Don’t forget to leave some time every evening to take in those magnificent Himalayan views!

It’s a short flight back to the beautiful Kathmandu Valley today. In the surrounding hills visit the 4thC Changu Narayan Temple in a quiet rural setting surrounded by forest. Explore the beautifully restored town of Bhaktapur discovering its quiet cobblestone streets with their hidden courtyards and spacious squares and visiting with potters, carvers and weavers plying ancient arts. On Day 10 hop onto mountain bikes for your choice of rides; a 30km intermediate level ride from Patan to Panauti with splendid views of the valley or north to the Shivapuri National Park visiting Newari communities along the way.
