A quaint little city popularly known as ‘Little England’, Nuwara Eliya is a surreal misty hill station where you can take gulps of fresh air and revel in its endearing vibe.

This mountain town was discovered by the British in the 19th century and is now home to aromatic tea gardens, colonial architectural gems and sprawling golf courses. There is lots to explore here, get your adventure dose on serene hikes, wander in humble markets or just relax and take in the beauty of this lush paradise.

To help you take a pick, here are a few things you can do in Nuwara Eliya:

1)  Relieve your stress at the gorgeous Victoria Park right at the centre of Nuwara Eliya. Grab a picnic lunch, wander to discover hidden corners or just lounge around on the manicured lawns, Victoria Park will surprise you with its tranquil aura.

2)  When in Nuwara Eliya, a visit to a tea estate is a must. There are many tea factories to choose from, the most popular being Mackwoods Tea Estate, Bluefield Tea Factory or Pedro Tea Factory. Take a tour of the factory, learn about the production and take some home to savour the experience.

3)  The Gregory Lake is where you can relax and get a chance to interact with the locals. Created in 1873 under the British rule the area around the lake is dotted with little houses and architecture dating back to the British era. Enjoy a walk around the lake or take a boat ride, to soak in the atmosphere.

4)  Built in 1891 The Grand Hotel is a perfect English style manor. With vintage interiors, a royal restaurant and a garden terrace spend a day here dining and sipping on some flavourful teas during high tea. Get lost in the grandeur of yesteryears at this marvellous hotel.

5)  Waterfalls are in abundance here. Bomburu Ella Falls, Lover’s Leap, Bambarakanda, Devon and St. Clairs are some of the most popular ones. Spend some time beholding these natural marvels and you can also spend a night in the guesthouses around these falls to sink into its beauty.
